In 2011 the majority of UK residents described themselves as belonging to a white ethnic group (87 per cent, 55 million). The usually resident population of the United Kingdom was 63.2 million on census day, a growth of 7 per cent (4.1 million) since 2001. ![]() The overall number of married people has remained the same at 23.9 million. ![]() On census day 27 March 2011, the proportion of the usually resident population in the UK aged 16 and over who were married had decreased from 51 per cent in 2001 to 47 per cent in 2011. ![]()
